Civil society and peacebuilding in the context of democratic process and political transition

Abstract

Two-thirds of the world’s countries would have been affected by conflict and could be the scene of violent conflicts. Efforts of governmental and non-governmental organizations have shown a sustained interest in conflict prevention. Unfortunately, their initiatives have been unsuccessful leading to a negative or fragile peace. The emergence of civil society is understood in this context – to avoid and prevent the escalation of large-scale inhumanities.
